The source of the issue: Android “Doze” mode

With Android 6, Google introduced a battery optimization feature called “Doze” that reduces energy consumption of idle devices. This mode activates only when the device has its screen is off, is not charging and not moving (according to the accelerometer). Some Android 5 devices may also have a feature similar to “Doze” that is managed by the software overlay (for example “App optimisation” on some Samsung devices).

The IGNrando’ app is designed to continue recording in the background or when the screen is off, however, in certain cases, the recording can stop.

The solution: modify system settings

You can disable battery optimization for the IGNrando’ app by following these steps:

Huawei devices

  • Running Android 7:
    • Open device Settings (from the home screen or with the gear icon in the notification pannel)
    • Go to “Apps”
    • Tap the “Settings” button at the bottom
    • Select “Special access”, then “Ignore battery optimization”
    • Select “All apps” in the drop-down menu
    • Find and tap “IGNrando” in the list
    • Select “Allow” and tap “OK”

Lenovo (Motorola & Moto) devices

  • Running Android 8:
    • Open IGNrando’ app, go to “Profile” (button at the bottom right), then to “About” (button at the top right)
    • Tap on “App system settings”
    • Tap on “Battery”, then on “Battery optimization”
    • Select “All apps” in the drop-down menu
    • Find and select “IGNrando” in the list
    • In the popup, select “Don’t optimize” and tap “DONE”
    • Tap the back button three times to go back to the app

Samsung devices

  • Running Android 9 & 10:
    • Open IGNrando’ app, go to “Profile” (button at the bottom right), then to “About” (button at the top right)
    • Tap on “App system settings”
    • Tap on “Battery”, then on “Optimize battery usage”
    • Select “All” in the drop-down menu
    • Find “IGNrando” in the list (or using search) and disable the switch on the right
    • Tap the back button three times to go back to the app
  • Running Android 7:
    • Open device Settings (from the app drawer or with the gear icon in the notification pannel)
    • Go to “Apps”
    • Open the menu in the top-right, select “Special access” and then “Optimize battery usage”
    • Select “All apps” in the drop-down menu
    • Find “IGNrando” in the list and disable the switch on the right

Xiaomi devices

  • Running Android 10:
    • Open IGNrando’ app, go to “Profile” (button at the bottom right), then to “About” (button at the top right)
    • Tap on “App system settings”
    • Tap on “Battery saver”, then select “No restrictions”
    • Tap the back button twice to go back to IGNrando’ app
